ergoPouch - Organic Crib All Year / Winter HugMe Blanket 1.0 / 2.5TOG
The HugMe Blanket is a TOG-rated, safer alternative to blankets suitable from birth* designed to minimise startle reflex and maximise sleep
for newborns.
Some babies may require additional firmness and security around their body for sleep without the need for swaddling. If this is your bub,
meet our HugMe Blanket. A TOG-rated alternative to loose blankets, this firm-fitting mattress sleeve is safer, easy to use and flexible for
different sleep environments.
Use over the top of a layer to provide added warmth, security and comfort for an infant during sleep without the risk of coming untucked.
The two TOG-rated sides allow you to adjust for warmth level and firmness. Use the 1.0 TOG side across your baby's body for a moderate
layer and moderate startle reflex. If your baby requires a warmer layer with a more secure fit, opt to use the 2.5 TOG side over their body.
Follow the included Bedding Temperature Guide for help on what TOG side to use, and what to wear underneath for sleep.
The HugMe Blanket features a two-way zip, to adjust for firmness (tightness) and mattress size.
When using the right size for your baby's length and sleep environment, the HugMe Blanket will not come up higher than mid-way up
baby's chest following safer sleep guidelines. Given the design of the product, the HugMe Blanket cannot become untucked from the
mattress, be pulled up near baby's face, or be classified as loose bedding in any way. If your baby does manage to get their legs out of the
HugMe Blanket, it will simply lie flat on the mattress. Newborns who don't like to be swaddled may find the firmness of the HugMe Blanket
comforting in lieu of swaddling.
Please cease using the HugMe Blanket once your baby shows signs of rolling over.
The HugMe Blanket has been extensively and independently tested and approved by INPAA (Infant and Nursery Products Alliance of
Australia) and in partnership with The Lullaby Trust UK as a safer-sleep product for newborns born at full term (37 weeks +), weight 3kg+
and length 50cm+ who are not rolling. We are very proud to be working in partnership with The Lullaby Trust on The HugMe blanket to
champion their safer sleep advice and help ensure all babies have a safer sleeping environment. Find out more about The Lullaby Trust’s
safer sleep advice here, and learn more about our partnership here.
According to the standards set by INPAA, The Lullaby Trust UK, Red Nose Australia, and the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP), the
HugMe Blanket satisfies the following safer sleep requirements for a newborn:
1. Place infants in their own sleep space for sleep: The HugMe Blanket is custom designed to fit a bassinet, cot/crib and bedside sleeper,
encouraging parents to put baby down to sleep in their own sleep space, rather than sharing a bed with them or sleeping in a space such
as a seating device, swing, car seat, or lounger
2. No loose blankets in the baby's sleep space: The HugMe Blanket is a firm-fitting mattress sleeve that fits all the way around a mattress,
like you would put a pillow slip on a pillow. It cannot become loose, pull up higher than baby's chest, and is designed to fall flat against the
bed if a baby wriggles their way up and out of the sheet. It is not classed as loose bedding.
3. Place baby on their back, in feet-to-foot position for sleep: The HugMe Blanket encourages parents to place baby in their sleep
environment on their backs, with their feet at the end of the cot/crib/bassinet.
4. Avoid overheating baby, keep their face uncovered: The HugMe Blanket is TOG-rated, lightweight, and made from breathable organic
cotton. It comes with a dressing guide to help parents understand how warmly to dress their baby for sleep. This discourages the use of
quilted blankets or heavy polyester blankets that trap heat and can cause overheating in newborns, as well as suffocation if pulled over
face.
Our products are reviewed by the Eczema Association of Australasia as being skin-friendly. All ergoPouch fabrics are dyed with non-toxic
water based dyes.
*The HugMe Blanket is suitable for use with babies who are not yet rolling, born after 37 weeks of pregnancy, weighing a minimum of 3kg
and measuring 50cm and over in length. If you have a smaller or pre-term baby who requires, or has required, special care please follow
the advice from your paediatrician before using this product. Discontinue use once baby shows signs of rolling over.
HOW TO USE:
1. Slip the HugMe Blanket over the end of your baby's mattress. Choose the 1.0 TOG side up for a moderate warmth layer and firm fit in
rooms between 19-23°C, or the 2.5 TOG side up for a secure fit and warm layer in 15-20°C rooms. Refer to our Bedding Temperature Guide
(included in pack) for more information.
2. Dress your baby in their sleepwear. We recommend a Bodysuit as a base layer, and one of our TOG-rated Layers (onesies), Use our
Bedding Temperature Guide to help you choose the right product combination and TOG.
3. Unzip the HugMe Blanket. Lay your baby under the open folds, with their feet touching the end of the crib / bedside sleeper / cot.
4. Zip up the blanket, to the desired firmness. You should easily be able to zip up the blanket, and firmly fit two fingers between the sheet
and your baby. Once zipped up, ensure the sheet does not come up higher than the middle of your baby's chest. If it is coming up higher,
simply tuck more of the sheet under the mattress until the right length is achieved. As your child grows taller, continue to adjust.
5. Unzip the sheet to remove baby from it.
6. Discontinue use once your baby shows signs of rolling over
